Over the past few months, multiple members of the department have been taking the necessary training classes in order to become a trained Firefighter and/or Emergency Medical Technician.

Junior member Eduardo Oro-Cabrera and active member Jada Hooker completed Maryland Firefighter I at the end of July, 2018. Firefighter I is a 108 hour classroom and practical training course. It is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to safely and effectively perform basic firefighting operations as part of a firefighting team. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to understand and apply the principles of fire behavior; building construction; water distribution systems; fixed fire protection systems; ventilation; hose streams; fire prevention; and inspections, ladders, and rescue techniques.

Probationary member Tremaine Dawkins and active member Alonzo Williams both completed their National Registry Emergency Medical Technician & Maryland EMT training early this month. EMT is a 165 hour classroom training course. EMT training provides students with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform emergency medical care in a pre-hospital environment at the basic life support level. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to recognize, assess, and manage medical and trauma signs and symptoms in patients of emergency situations, determine and use appropriate equipment for patient management and care, communicate and work with other emergency service personnel in the care, transport and transfer of patients and maintain patient and department records.
