New Years resolutions typically focus around one's health, but why not consider one that involves the safety of others?

We are encouraging people to start the New Year by choosing a resolution that helps keep your community safe, such as becoming our newest volunteer here at the Riverdale Heights VFD. By joining your local fire station, you're helping to save lives and giving back in a big way. Don't wait, start the New Year right by contacting us to find out how you can play a part.

Volunteer Firefighters help save lives and protect property in the community. Our volunteers learn to do things like advance hose lines to extinguish fires, perform search-and-rescue operations, as well as position ladders strategically. The training and personal protective equipment needed to stay safe and keep others safe too are provided free of charge. (Note: All volunteer firefighters MUST be trained as a Maryland/National Registry EMT).

Volunteer EMTs help save lives by transporting the sick and injured to the hospital. Again all training and personal protective equipment provided to our members are provided free of charge. (Note: EMS only members can choose to take Firefighter classes once they complete their EMT class, however you do not have too.)

Junior members are those who are ages 16 and 17 that have not reached their 18th birthday, but are able to begin fire and EMS training that will prepare them to become a full active member once they turn 18 years old. Volunteering as a junior firefighter/EMT is also a way to secure community service hours to graduate high school.

Administrative members are those who choose not to partake in emergency operations, but play a huge role by helping to teach fire prevention and life safety, assist in fundraising events, help with record keeping, recruitment and retention as well as assisting with our IT/website.

Benefits for all members include but not limited to; free local, regional and nationwide training, duty uniforms, live-in opportunities (active/certified members), retirement program (LOSAP), state income tax deductions (Maryland residents only), staffing and training incentives (operational members) and much more! All applicants must be able to pass an extensive background check, but only operational prospects must successfully pass a comprehensive medical evaluation plus additional training before enrolling in Maryland Firefighter I and/or Maryland & National Registry EMT.

For more information on how to become our newest volunteer, please contact our Recruiter at recruiter@rhvfd13.com. You can also fill out our online application here: http://www.rhvfd13.com//apps/public/database/formAdd.cfm?Form_ID=1 Someone from our Membership Committee will be in contact with you in 6-12 hours.
